Organizations as open socio-technical systems

Organizations are considered open socio-technical systems and therefore are represented as having two aspects:

Technical aspect Systems that seek to pursue goals effectively and efficiently in often volatile environments
Human-social aspect Their viability depends on establishing shared understandings among their members about the goals to be pursued.

Thus, the successful evolution of organizations depends on paying attention to both these aspects.
